A candidate for certification must be accepted for admission by the university and meet the criteria relevant to the individual's status as an undergraduate, graduate, transfer, or student-at-large. Each department offering a certification program establishes its own program admission requirements. However, all candidates for initial certification must have at least a 2.5 grade point average, while candidates for advanced certification must have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
Prior to admission to a teacher certification program, all candidates must pass the state-required Basic Skills Test.
